In this exhibition Malagrino offers an insight into the background and the making of her first documentary Burnt Oranges, expected to be released in the Spring of 2005.
Burnt Oranges is a feature-length dv documentary about the long-term effects and repercussions, personal and social, of Argentina's 1970's state terrorism. Juxtaposing a first person witness narration with interviews, documentary and re-created footage, issues of memory, historical time, identity, love, loss and accountability emerge.
The exhibition at Polvo features the screening of the fifteen-minute
trailer from the film, photographs, and an array of documentation collected
over the years including letters, newspaper clips, faxes, and magazines
from different Argentine human rights organizations.
Silvia A. Malagrino is a Chicago-based artist, native of Buenos Aires,
Argentina. She has exhibited throughout the United States, Latin America
and Europe. Her works are included in the collections of the the Museum
of the Art Institute of Chicago, La Bibliothèque Nationale de
France, Paris, France, and the Fundaçao Athos Bulçao, Brasilia,
Brazil, among others. She is Associate Professor at The School of Art
and Design of the University of Illinois, Chicago.
